Pad Printing Inks
PBE Marking Systems supplies a wide range of high-performance pad printing inks designed to deliver clean, durable, and repeatable results across a variety of substrates and applications. For applications printing on plastics, glass, metals, or coated surfaces, we’ll help you find the right ink for your process and end-use requirements.
We also supply thinners, hardeners, and additives to fine-tune your ink’s performance, and we provide full support to help you get the best results from your setup.
What Are Pad Printing Inks?
Pad printing inks are specially formulated for use in indirect printing processes where ink is transferred via a silicone pad. These inks must be able to adhere reliably to a wide variety of substrates, remain stable during the printing cycle, and transfer cleanly without distortion.
Compared to other printing inks, pad printing inks are generally lower in viscosity, quick drying, and highly customisable through the use of additives.
Choosing the Right Pad Printing Ink
Selecting the correct pad printing ink is essential for achieving strong adhesion, clear definition, and long-term durability. The most important factor is the substrate material, different plastics (such as ABS, PP, PE, PC), metals, glass, and coated or painted surfaces all require specific ink formulations to bond effectively. Some plastics, like polypropylene, are notoriously difficult to print on without the correct ink or pre-treatment.
The level of durability needed also plays a major role. Products exposed to regular handling, cleaning, abrasion, or chemicals, such as automotive parts, medical components, or consumer packaging, will require tougher ink systems, often involving two-component or UV-curable solutions for better resistance.
The curing method is another consideration. Some inks air-dry at room temperature, while others may require heat curing or the addition of a hardener to trigger crosslinking. UV-curable inks offer fast throughput and excellent resistance but require a UV light source within your printing setup.
If you’re producing items for regulated sectors such as toys, food packaging, or medical devices, the ink must also meet specific compliance requirements. We can help you navigate these and ensure the inks used meet the necessary standards.
Lastly, the complexity of your artwork, including colour count, print area, and fine details, may also influence the choice of ink. Some inks are better suited to multi-colour registration or fine line reproduction, and we’ll advise you based on the print quality you’re aiming for.
